From previous experience we know just how quickly time flies. 2013 seems to be proving that the more time flies the faster it goes!
It is only about 7 months to the start of the 2013 1965Ride for education – the education in motion ride!
With the growth of the Queen’s College Foundation – and as it starts to reach for its vision of Queenstown as an education destination – it is almost certain that we will have more riders riding with us representing other schools in the town. This is good and as it should be.
If we can create Queenstown as a centre of educational excellence we will have done our job and established a model that can be applied anywhere in the world. You will have participated in changing the realities of about 100 000 kids, their families and communities. We will have created a pride that is at the heart of self-confidence, the fuel of success.
Now is the time to start building your fitness levels – exercise at least 4 times a week and begin to build your sponsorship base. Remember that if you reach the R25 000 threshold your accommodation and food between JHB and Queenstown and your arrival night in Queenstown is paid – you ride for free! And you will have helped to create something that we can all be proud of.
We already have the backing of McCarthy Ford and Mazda Pretoria East, Imperial GM Isando, Jurgens Caravans, CycleScience Broadacres, Yoni Titi and Associates, our primary sponsor the DAWN Group and a number of others. If you start now you will have time to find significantly more than the threshold level. Remember we would like to hit R1 million for education this year.
It is immensely satisfying to work for others without wanting or expecting a thanks. In fact the biggest thanks one gets is from oneself!
We will finalise the route within the next week or so; we will give you constant updates on sponsors and other important info.
For those who live in Gauteng (and any others) who wish to join us, there is a strong core of 1965ers who ride each Saturday morning from my home near Lanseria. You are welcome to join us. Many of us have signed on to ride the OFM Classic on 4 November – come and join us.
A couple of weeks later we are riding the 94.7 with the DAWN Group as part of their Charity Bond that is organised in favour of the Queen’s College Trust, the 1965ride and what we are trying to do to change the face of education in the Queenstown district. Please come and join us!
What a brilliant way to have fun, enjoy great teamwork and do a whole bunch of good at the same time.
Thanks to everyone who has already committed to be part of this great adventure in one way or another!
